WEEHAWKEN, NJ, November 17, 1998 - Hanover Direct, Inc. (AMEX: HNV) today announced that Robert J. Vill has been named Vice President, Finance & Treasurer, effective immediately.

In this position, Mr. Vill will have full treasury responsibility for the organization. This will include corporate finance, cash planning, shareholder relations issues, overall banking relations, corporate credit management and corporate tax. He will report to Larry J. Svoboda, Senior Vice President/Chief Financial Officer for Hanover Direct, Inc.

Mr. Vill comes to Hanover from Saks Fifth Avenue where he served as Vice President & Treasurer responsible for corporate finance, structuring and negotiating bank, credit and real estate financings, cash management and forecasting, as well as managing ongoing bank group relations, factor relations, debt management, and foreign exchange and interest rate risk management. With over twenty years of financial management experience in retail and manufacturing environments, Vill has also held positions with Astro-Valcour, Inc. and Arthur Andersen & Co.
